Exile (Mercy Series #2)

Exile - Rebecca Lim When I first started reading this book, I was expecting it to be like the first book. This book surprised me. I felt more connected with Mercy and Lela, the person Mercy took over. There was more depth to the story this time. I felt it was more relateable, Lela's mom dying, Justine's abusive ex-boyfriend. Each character just drew me in more and more. The characters had their own part to play in this book - from Sulaiman (who is simply unforgettable) to Franklin, to Ranald, Reggie and Cecelia to the owner of the cafe where Mercy/Lela worked. Even Ryan, from the first book, made an appearance and, of course, the dream-visioned Luc. The dynamics were intriquing and the characters had definite personalities all of their own.The sub-plot and the main plot of series became more developed as the book went on. The ending was surprising and unexpected and I was pleasantly surprised. But I won't say anything because that would be spoiling it for people who have yet to read it.For those of you who read the first book, and thought 'ugh' as I did, then read this book because my faith was restored and I can't wait to read the next book - which I already own.
